There are several ways to remove mold, usually it boils down to what is firstly most effective, and secondly the most economical.
Neat thing our system combines both of the above. We use our USDA certified product that is not harmful to your home’s natural environment, nor your plants, pools or pets. Calbrite’s base and activator product removes a micro layer of the wood, along with it removing the mold spore and any attached fragments. Here are some other removal techniques used in our industry.
Remember mold spores that are alive or dormant are equally as harmful.
Sanding and encapsulation - The framing materials are sanded and then sprayed with a oil based paint. Cons- The paint is toxic, and if all of mold is not removed the mold is now trapped beneath a layer of paint and can start the regeneration cycle. Sanding the contaminated surface also sends millions of mold spores into the air environment in your home. It is also difficult to reach
all areas that require sanding
Ice blasting – CO2 machine shoots ice pellets onto the wood surface to remove a layer of the surface. Cons- Expensive and it leaves a lot of debris and waste from the CO2 removing a layer of the wood. It also sends the spores airborne like sanding.
Application of Biocides – the EPA guidelines do not recommend the application of biocides or bleach as a primary
way of removing mold form you home. Cons- Application of a toxic substance in your indoor environment.
Ozonation – This technique deliberately changes the air in your home to Ozone. It will kill all plants and animals in the home if left while ozonation is running. Cons- Mold whether it is alive or dormant is equally as toxic. The process of Ozonation does not remove the mold. There is also evidence that this procedure is not effective at removing mold
from your home
Bleach cleaning. This is the application of bleach to remove the mold. Cons – The EPA does not recommend this as a remedy for mold and fungal growth and bleach is toxic when used in high doses.
